At this time, the TOWER OF LONDON was still intact when people visited. Now it is ruined, on 2 sides, by ugly tall buildings, and you can't avoid seeing them! This has been done all over London, by "the money people", of today, destroying the view ALL along the river.. Just to show they can, now they have got control of the country and beyond. So people better watch films - to see how London used to look in proper times!

I remember. The pollution was so bad you couldn’t wear white, it would be grey by the end of the day. The ancient and outdated technology. Getting mugged on the Tube was something you could expect, or just being battered to a pulp by skinheads (”Down in the Tube Station at Midnight” by The Jam, anyone?) The bomb scares, the bombings. The Hyde Park Corner bombing of 1982, what carnage; I was nearby, it was as if the war had started all over again. Unemployment, stagnation, strikes, a self-destructive car industry committing suicide in slow motion. The decrepit wastelands of Docklands that had only recently been shut, leaving nothing but toxic waste and mud behind. Ronan Point collapsing. On the other hand, friendliness, helpfulness, politeness, gentlemanship. And now? Skyline raped by stark raving lunatic architects erecting shards and walkie-talkies and gherkins and other phallic symbols all over the place. Stores and restaurants and pubs closing down because people are shopping online and can’t afford going out. And why would they? They can’t even afford to live in London since everything is bought up by oligarchs and billionaires an buy-to-let speculators. A city moving from being liveable into becoming a giant fairground - even with its own ferris wheel, the hideous London Eye. Gone is the friendliness and replaced by fierce cutthroat competition and every-man-for-himself attitudes. On the other hand, the place is infinitely cleaner. You don’t get choked in smoke, you don’t risk burning to a crisp just because someone discarded a match onto the wooden escalators at King’s Cross. The buildings are cleaner. The place is safer with fewer bombings and police finally bearing arms and tactical gear instead of only being equipped with whistles and the ability to say ”Ello, ello, ello”. Things have become both worse and better. But when we think about what went wrong, fight the real enemy. Greedy property developers. Big and often shady money from overseas. Ranpant predatory capitalism. And last but not least, Thatcherism, which smashed and shattered the social fabric of the country and replaced courtesy with psychopathic egotism. From the Huguenots to the Chinese to the Jews to the Angles to the Saxons to the Normans to the Vikings to the Celts, Britain has *always* been an immigrant nation. That isn’t the problem here. Selling out the country to the highest bidder and mismanaging the rest is where we need to start looking. Fight the real enemy.

My Grandparents and Dad lived there when I was a child, and I visited 4-5 times a year starting in 1980. It's an absolute cesspit now, barely any actual Londoners, people coping with 'oh it was awful in the 80s as well' are doing just that. Punks and skinheads were no where even close to the level of violence now from black gang culture, and the streets did not have people from 3rd world literally defecating on them, and marching in the streets making demands of their hosts.

To all those who've left negative and nasty comments. Yes I agree all cities change, grown and modernise with new technologies etc. Yet as we see, London has changed in a very different way to what most are commenting on. My feeling is that although some changes are welcome, there are certain evil people who never stop to ask the indigenous folk what they think, which is where a lot of these current problems stem from. Folk are not racist, ignorant, right wing or any other crass words you can hurl. Wr just love our capital city, our homeland, regardless of race, creed, gender. Go to othe countries and you will know most folk want to make their country and lives better. Sadly due to very bad decisions and vile ideology we're in trouble. To aknowledge that is not wrong or hateful. Freedom of speech that we all enjoy came at a price for those who died in the world wars. Please never forget that. Till we have built Jerusalem on England's green and pleasant land 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧😘

To ANNABELLE SAPHIRE. Remember to vote for the English Democrats party in the election. At the end of party conferences we song "till we have built Jerusalem in ENGLAND's green and pleasant land", as our REAL national anthem - because it actually MENTIONS England. The official national anthem doesn't mention that and is just the King or Queen's birthday song!
